The Artist
Jose Solon Perfecto is a pottery artist that blends his own wild clay and formulates ash glazes using elements of his terroir: rice fields, trees, deposits from the mountain. He is using ancient techniques and championing cultural heritage, but his pottery has a vibe that is much informed by modern times.
Known as the Prodigal Son of Contemporary Philippine Ceramics, Solon Perfecto dedicated half a decade to mastering the art of cigar blending for Tabacalera Incorporada. After which, the artist pursed the unhurried life away from the city.
He moved to a surftown and returned to his work on the pottery wheel, a path that he began when he was 8 years old as a student of Jon Pettyjohn.
He is currently in production for commissioned works and an upcoming group exhibit in July 2024 as well as a solo collection in September 2024.
